There are so many benefits to buying your beef in bulk. You have the opportunity to fill your freezer for months, up to a year depending on the share amount you get and the number of people you have in your family. As with buying most anything in bulk, it's a cost effective route that will save you money in the long run. Having the ability to sign up for a share ahead of time gives you peace of mind that your freezer will be stocked, and you won't have to worry about running out of beef! Plus, you'll have more of a variety of cuts to choose from and have control of how much of each cut you need.
It goes without saying that quarter, half, and whole beef shares give the best overall value. The larger the share, the more you save. And even if you're not ready to purchase a bigger share like these, we have an 1/8 Beef Bundle option, as well as a Large and Small bundle option at our farm! We try to make these as cost effective as possible by bundling them up so you can save!
What's Included in Beef Shares?
Maybe you've never purchased a share of beef before and you're wondering how it all works, as well as what you get with each share of beef. It can vary slightly, but for the most part with a share of beef, you'll get:
ground beef, in your desired packaged weight
steaks and roasts, cut to your desired thickness
ribs, stew meat
bone-in and boneless options
tallow (fat)
bones, oxtail
organs (heart, liver, kidney, etc.)
Ordering beef in bulk is an easy process at Wholehearted Farm. We walk you through the entire process from start to finish.
How Much Beef Do I Get With Each Share?
This is a question we get quite often. It really depends on the types of cuts you select, as well as the final hanging weight. Our animals average about 1,200 - 1,300 pounds live weight. The hanging weight usually ends up being 63% of the live weight, which is the amount used when we charge per pound for the beef, as well as what the locker uses to charge for processing.
We've had an average of the following take-home meat amounts:
1/4 Beef: 130 pounds
1/2 Beef: 260 pounds
Whole Beef: 520 pounds
What Comes With A Bundle?
If you're not quite ready to order a share, bundles are a great option to get stocked up without needing a lot of freezer space. Our most popular bundle has been our 1/8 Beef Bundle, which includes:
30 lbs Ground Beef
4 Roasts (of your choice)
1 package Short Ribs
2 packages Stew Meat
2 Tenderloin Filets
2 KC Strip Steaks
1 Sirloin Steak
4 Ribeye Steaks
Or you can order one of our smaller bundles:
Large Beef Bundle:
10 lbs Ground Beef
2 Roasts (of your choice)
2 Sirloin Steaks
2 KC Strip Steaks
2 Ribeye Steaks
Small Beef Bundle:
5 lbs Ground Beef
1 Roast (of your choice)
2 Ribeye Steaks
The biggest difference between shares of beef and bundles is when you actually get them. Our bundles are ready as soon as you order them, as long as all cuts are in stock. They are also available for shipping within the state of Kansas. Shares of beef are reserved for a period of time before we take them to the locker, and they go through a dry-aging process before they are divided up into the cuts you'll fill your freezer with. They are then ready to be picked up approximately two weeks after their butcher date by the customer. Some of our customers get their name down for a share of beef, and if they need beef in the meantime, they order a bundle from us to get them by!
Bottom line, you can't go wrong ordering beef in bulk. Whether you split a full beef with family members, get a 1/2 just for your household, or just need a bundle at a time, we are more than happy to help you taste the difference with our quality, homegrown beef!
